There were 176 runners on the Worthing Olympic Triathlon, run on Sunday 27 June at the Alinora boat ramp. The 1500m swim started sharp at high tide 7am, took the leader 14 minutes, and slowest 51 minutes. The 43km cycle ride took the leader 66 minutes. The 10km run took the fastest runner 36 minutes. The slowest competitor was also given an award and took a total of 4.5hours. 1st Jason Denniman from Horsham 2nd Gary Bryant from Kent 3rd David Glossy from Milton Keynes 1st Lady Nicki Treacy from Angmering The Mayor Councillor and Mrs Jack Sahid presented the prizes.
The swim was fortunate that the sea was pretty calm; it got a lot rougher mid-morning. The cycle section was trouble free excerpt for an unfortunate accident just near the finish line; a retriever dog ran out of a house and knocked Mark Archer off his bike. He was taken to hospital but is apparently OK. And the yes, the dog is OK too. The run with two laps of a circuit from the Lido to George V Avenue went well. |
