The County of Sussex
Sussex. Home of Rudyard Kipling, uncrowned laureate of Sussex who lived at Burwash. His Puck of Pook's Hill was quite properly unable to decide which he loved the most, the Weald, or the Marsh, or the White Chalk Coast.
Home also of Hilaire Belloc who lived at Shipley.
And of Tennyson who lived at Black Down, near the Surrey border. Tennyson wrote:
You came and looked and loved the view
Long known and loved by me
Green Sussex, fading into blue
With one grey glimpse of sea
