Commendations for Excellent Service

14 businesses in Goring received nominations in the recent Customer Service survey on the Goring-by-Sea Internet web site. This was part of the National Customer Service Week organised by the Institute of Customer Service who donated a bottle of champagne as prize.

Establishments in several sectors received commendations including a garage repair shop, restaurant, post office, florist, chemist, the library, a furnishing store, butchers, a garden contractor, and a pet shop.

For the Best Service in Goring the prize went to John Hayward, Pharmacy of Aldsworth Parade, Goring. Respondents commented - "Fast, efficient and friendly service and a great source of advice. Always gives 110%, even after hours".

The runner-up was Baloos restaurant, Sea Place, Goring. Comments included - "Very friendly and efficient. Super with the kids. Brilliant friendly service. If only all shops and restaurants had staff like this.

Other comments included for the bakery - "What is important to me, is the lovely smile and welcome from a shop assistant that I have ever seen, which makes it a double pleasure to go in there".

And for the florist - "A nice friendly attitude coupled with real concern to make sure that two flowers that looked the same - would actually be the same colour when the buds open".

Organiser Dick Waller, Chairman of the Goring Residents' Association who runs the Goring-by-Sea website said - 'I am very pleased with the way that local residents have reacted to this competition, and that the comments have been so favourable about the shops and services in our village'.

Peter Hall, Regional Director of the Institute of Customer Service said 'I am delighted with this local initiative to recognise good service. All businesses identified in this survey should take credit from the fact that they have been recognised. Good customer service really does contribute to profits and so the challenge is for all the other businesses in the area to develop their standards of service so that they can be recognised by local residents and visitors - their customers!'

John Hayward who has the champagne on proud view in his chemist shop said - 'We are all very pleased that we have won the prize against stiff competition". He noted that "happy and friendly customers make good customer service easy and a pleasure, and conveys thanks to their friends for their support'.
