Ilex Avenue runs for nearly a mile, from St Mary's Church due West to Ferring. A proud avenue of trees, a glossy, dark green sash to hold in the housing, loved by walkers and their dogs, a shady stroll away from the traffic. The history of the Avenue from 1834 when planted by David Lyons, to the present day. An old picture, but giving an idea of the strategic imporatnce of the Avenue holding back the houses. The Evergreen, Holm, or Holly Oak is a tree that looks much like an enormous holly tree When the Queen Mother was a child, she walked under the towering cathedral of oak trees while staying at nearby Goring Hall. Conserving the beauty and present character of Ilex Avenue, the trees in Sea Lane, and the Goring Gap The several areas of concern to Goring residents, and to the Ilex Conservation Group |
