Objection: WB/04/00040/OUT - West Durrington Development (closing date 27 Feb 2004 1. We object that the principle entrance to the estate is now from Titnore Lane. This has required a new roundabout, tall street lights, significant widening of Titnore Lane, and the loss of trees protected by Tree Preservation Orders. The rural character of Titnore Lane will be almost entirely destroyed. The Inspector recommended that there should be a minimal linkage between the area round South Lodge Rue (previously named as Mitchells Furzefild) and the rest of the development, which implies that there should only be a footpath. 2.. Access from Titnore Lane has also resulted in a major road, cutting across South Lodge Rue woodland, which is an SNCI. The Worthing Local Plan states that the development should be subject to the retention of significant ecological and landscape features within the site, including important wildlife corridors. 3.. This road also impacts the area of wetland just east of Furzefield. This is also contrary to the local planning policy. 4.. And we object to the housing on either side of the Furzefield and the access road, as this impacts the green corridor of Goring Gap that we are eager to protect between the downs and the sea. We note also that this area is very wet and has potential drainage problems. 5.. We remain opposed to the extent of the whole scheme on the grounds that the environment is not suitable for the influx of the final proposal for 1200 houses, with the resulting numbers of people, cars, the increase in traffic, and the proposed traffic lights at theA259 roundabout. We are also concerned about the impact on schools, medical services, policing, shopping; and generally the provision of services to the new houses. . We are concerned about the surface water drainage, and possible flooding downstream from the development. 6.. We are still not satisfied with the plans to protect the integrity and maintenance of Grade I listed Castle Goring and its parkland, and how this shall be funded |
