Dame Vera's antiques roadshow raises £650 for Gifford House ![]() The Antiques Valuation Day on Saturday 25 March, opened by Dame Vera Lynn has raised £650 for The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home for Ex-Servicemen, Gifford House. Sponsored by Bond International Software, which loaned its historic head office, Courtlands, for the event, around 250 people brought antiques to be valued by six specialists from Phillips Auctioneers. Worthing Mayor Brian McLuskie, who organised the day in conjunction with Bond and Phillips, said: "The event was a huge success, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Dame Vera, Bond International Software, Phillips Auctioneers, an army of volunteers and the support of the people of Worthing." The Phillips specialists, who carried out hundreds of valuations in the splendour of the Gold Room at Courtlands, unearthed a number of treasures, including a postcard from The Titanic. It was sent by the late grandfather of Worthing resident Faith Pakeham- Beatty. who sadly perished in the Titanic disaster, aged 32, leaving a wife and three daughters. ![]() The organisers would like to thank the Highdown Volunteer Police Cadets, who worked throughout the day as traffic stewards.
